UK BCSD is a branch of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) based in Geneva and operating through 65 national branches worldwide. The WBCSD is unique because its strategies are developed and tested by its members. Its work programme covers all aspects of sustainable development in business and its activity is driven by two key strategies – Vision 2050 and Action 2020. WBCSD’s Vision 2050 report calls for a new agenda for business laying out a pathway to a world in which nine billion people can live well, and within the planet’s resources, by mid-century. The report was compiled by 29 leading global companies from 14 industries working with some 200 companies and external stakeholders in some 20 countries. The report features a set of agreed ‘must haves’ - vital developments that WBCSD members will consider putting in place within the next decade
UK BCSD has developed an Action Programme to support the delivery of the Vision 2050 targets. The diagram shows UK BCSD’s focus areas.
The UK BCSD operates as an independent not-for-profit organisation. It has a Board of Directors drawn from its membership and including SUEZ, Central Bedfordshire Council, Tarmac, Everyman Legal, E.ON, and Tata Steel.
